GIPS pledges support to NI Hospice
Pupils in GIPS are going to hold a sponsored “circuits” in school on Friday 28th February 2014. This will be a non-uniform day and pupils will be asked to attend in sports gear with the intention of taking part in a circuits class involving a series of keep fit activities organised by our PE leaders in school. The aim for each pupil will be to compete on behalf of their class to seek a winning class prize. In return, children will be asked to complete sponsor forms each aiming for a modest target of £3.00. Collectively, the school is aiming to raise £1000 to help NI Hospice with their Buy-a-Brick campaign. Please give generously and help your children have a fun energy-filled day……
P5 & P6 pupils are participating in a cross community project with a number of other schools from the area based at Seaview Football Grounds. The scheme is run by Crusaders FC and Newington FC and has given children the opportunity to collaborate with other kids from other schools on PDMU activities including art and craft, oh, and of course, football!
As usual Mr Denvir is on hand to coach and manage the team and the children have a very competative spirit each week. (Wonder who they get that from?! – CD)
Here is one of the teams who performed splendidly this week, cleaning up!!
Thanks to Scott Gordon for the photo.
We will hold our Open Evening for prospective P1 and Playgroup parents and pupils who would like to consider our school for Sept 14 intake, on Tuesday 3rd December 2013.
Forms should by then be available to complete for application. The school and playgroup staff will be in attendance to answer any questions you might have and there will be some entertainment provided by the older pupils and small activities for your children should you wish to bring them along with you.
The Open Evening will start at 7pm and run to 9pm. Please come along and visit us to find out a little more about what goes on in GIPS.
Pupils from GIPS escorted by Mr A attended the schools’ launch of Buy a Brick campaign on 25th Sept 13 to encourage 50+ schools to help fund-raise £1000 from each school to help build the new play area in the 11 million pound rebuild of Somerton House.
Maurice Jay from U-105 hosted the event and children were shown the project plans and need for new build. Everyone is getting behind this worthwhile campaign to support families touched by terminal illness.
The children are now going to help lead an assembly this week to promote the support we are going to offer in school and then in the coming weeks, the school council class representatives are going to canvas their classes and come together to agree as a council what events and when we are going to raise this money. It will equate to only approx £3 per child in school/playgroup so hopefully we can raise even more than the £1000 target.
The event was held in the Crumlin Rd Gaol so as well as getting some goodies from U-105 and the NI Hospice, the kids also got a quick look around (as well as their lucky treat at Havlock House earlier in the month!)
Look out for our fund-raising events in the weeks to come as the pupils bring their ideas to life! Follow this link to learn a bit more about the new plans for the hospice with their youtube video……click here
INTEGRATED CUP CHAMPIONS 13
Once again for the second year running, Glengormley Integrated PS took the title of Integrated Cup Winners 2013 in football. The tournament took place at Brook Activity Centre, kindly hosted by Mr R Mulcahy of Oakwood IPS. Other teams represented their schools from Hazelwood IPS. Millenium IPS and Oakwood IPS.
The team played brilliantly under the management coaching skills of Mr C Denvir. The top goal scorer of the day was Callum Marshall (P4) who was really on form and demonstrated huge potential for the future.
POLAND 2013 Residential Trip

POLAND TRIP 2013
We have a group of 27 children from P6 and P7 with 8 adults (3 staff and 5 parents/grandparents) travelling to Krakow, Poland in May 2013. In order to help prepare them for this visit, we have uploaded a short Powerpoint slideshow of the itinerary for the days – ie. where and when we are planning to do things.
There will be a meeting after Easter for all attending to answer any final questions and confirm finer details.
All the children are really looking forward to what has always been a wonderful experience that many of them may never get the chance to do again……
