Children at Glengormley Integrated Primary School were delighted to show some special visitors their classrooms and share their Easter celebrations this week. Acting US Deputy Consul General Penny Wilkinson and her colleague Margaret Katsumi, the consulate’s political and economic officer, toured the school with Principal Nigel Arnold after the Integrated Education Fund had arranged for them to see how the school works with children of varied backgrounds, cultures and nationalities.
The guests saw the pupils’ Easter cards and decorations and were very interested to see a project on the Titanic. They heard how the children are forging links with other schools in Northern Ireland and abroad and viewed IT facilities which have been developed with the help of international supporters of integrated education.
Principal Nigel Arnold said “We are always glad to show our school and our work to visitors, and I think the children’s questions and conversations with our American guests showed how outward-looking they are. We are very aware that young people today are global citizens and the diversity they encounter both within and outside the classroom prepares them well for their future.”
Here are our little stars from MARCH 2012
Well done to all our star pupils of the month

All the children came home with shamrock after a special P2 St Patrick’s Day celebration Assembly on Wednesday this week. Also we were visited for the very first time from the priest of St Mary’s on the Hill Parish, Father John Forsythe on Tuesday too. We presented Father John with shamrock and he led the service of 1st Penance (Confession) on Wednesday for our P3 children in St Mary’s on the Hill.
Here’s what one of our parents had to say about the day…..
“I didn’t get a chance to speak to you on Wednesday but my husband and I both wanted to say thank you for all the work you (and other staff!) have done in preparing the children for their 1st Confession. The junior choir sang beautifully and all were so well turned out in their shirts and ties and so well behaved they did us proud! It was lovely that the children got a wee certificate to remember the day and also a lovely touch to have tea/juice and biscuits back in the school afterwards!“
To celebrate 30 years of Integrated Education in Northern Ireland, we launched 300 balloons from the school grounds on Friday 9th March 12 at the end of Integrated Week. The theme was “Journeys”. Look at how far our balloons have travelled and there are more reports still coming in! Keep up to date on our school facebook site – links on the right……..
Here is a of photo from our visit on Friday 2nd March 2012 to Stormont, kindly hosted by Mr Trevor Lunn MLA with special guest Mr Trevor Ringland, ex. Ulster and Ireland Rugby International Superstar! The rest of the photos can be seen by clicking here…..
