GIPS get a visit from the US Consulate!!

Children at Glengormley Integrated Primary School were delighted to show some special visitors their classrooms and share their Easter celebrations this week. Acting US Deputy Consul General Penny Wilkinson and her colleague Margaret Katsumi, the consulate’s political and economic officer, toured the school with Principal Nigel Arnold after the Integrated Education Fund had arranged for them to see how the school works with children of varied backgrounds, cultures and nationalities.
The guests saw the pupils’ Easter cards and decorations and were very interested to see a project on the Titanic. They heard how the children are forging links with other schools in Northern Ireland and abroad and viewed IT facilities which have been developed with the help of international supporters of integrated education.
Principal Nigel Arnold said “We are always glad to show our school and our work to visitors, and I think the children’s questions and conversations with our American guests showed how outward-looking they are. We are very aware that young people today are global citizens and the diversity they encounter both within and outside the classroom prepares them well for their future.”
