Farewell Mrs Lyness….

We finished today at 12pm with a celebration assembly at the end of 1/2 term to say farewell to Mrs Lyness who is retiring from teaching today.  Mrs Lyness came to GIPS in 2007 after 24 years teaching in Ballyduff Primary School.  She has taught children from early years all the way to P5 through her Teaching career and has decided at this time to retire early to enjoy some more quality time of her own with her husband Victor (also a retired school teacher).  Susan has been a wonderful teacher, who has supported and taught children who have continued to warm to her caring thoughtful manner and wonderful ability to keep people smiling.  She was entertained today by children who read poems and their memories to her and played guitar.  She has supported not only the children’s learning in P4 and P5 in Glengormley through the last 5 years, but also been instrumental in the public celebration of our school, leading the choir as participants in Young Voices, The Peace Proms and on numerous occasions in support of charity and the community.  It was only right that school closed early today to allow a proper send-off from the pupils and the opportunity to share a celebration lunch with staff from the present and the past.  We all thank Mrs Lyness for her years of dedication to not only Glengormley Integrated but also to education in the greater Newtownabbey community through her entire teaching career.  We will miss her and wish her all the very best from the Governors, Staff and Pupils of GIPS!
